TARAFDER Lab Student Random Nisia Awarded Future Innovators of America Fellowship

The TARAFDER Lab is proud to announce that Random Nisia, a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering at South Dakota State University, has been awarded the prestigious Future Innovators of America Fellowship by the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering.

Originally from Papua New Guinea, Nisia will work under the mentorship of Dr. Solaiman Tarafder, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Principal Investigator of the TARAFDER Lab. His fellowship project focuses on the development of an off-the-shelf, self-sealing patch graft designed to treat articular cartilage defects without the need for suturing—an innovation with the potential to revolutionize orthopedic care.

The project aims to address a long-standing challenge in cartilage repair by providing a minimally invasive, ready-to-use solution that improves healing outcomes and reduces the complexity of surgical procedures.

The TARAFDER Lab congratulates Random on this well-deserved fellowship and is excited to support his journey as he contributes to innovative solutions in musculoskeletal tissue engineering.
